Well, since I'm loath to leave SAK, I'm entering as an individual.
Minmatar Frigate I, here I come- none of the other races have T1 frigs that are (a) reasonably fast, and (b) equipped with lots of low and mid slots. I'll miss hearing about Owi's Firetail, but I'm glad that faction frigs are now banned from league play- this should even out the field somewhat (I seriously doubt many people will bother to fit faction modules, given the considerable risks in the competition).
Time to go and play with Quickfit

Edited by: Kazuo Ishiguro on 28/10/2006 12:29:08 What's the latest date put forward for starting the season? 1 month from date announced to date begun seems a bit excessive, although I appreciate the opportunity to get my Navigation skills up to scratch.
I don't mean to whine, I'm just really looking forward to it. ---------- Racer in the ISGC Frigate League |

I would like to hear from any solo competitor who'd like to gang up with me for the race; that way, we both get (at least) an 8% speed bonus from the Skirmish Warfare skill, which I understand neither of us would otherwise get. I should have level 4 by then. I don't want to join forces with anyone who's part of a corp team of more than one racer, as such people have been known to do some rather nasty things in previous races
To avoid ending up in different systems and killing the bonus, I'd like to find someone aiming to reach 3.1 to 3.3km/s max speed before gang bonuses. A larger gang would help prevent this, but it would also reduce the collective advantage over people not in the gang. ---------- Racer in the ISGC Frigate League |

5 from the same corp, eh? I wonder how many will be toting guns to take down the competition?

I had a strong sense of being rather outclassed during this race- Kendar put me completely to shame by stopping off to kill not one but two serpentis cruisers, and still overtaking me by a few places towards the end.
Several important lessons I have learned:
Opening cans with 50 bookmarks each in them takes some time due to lag.The contents of the cans load faster in list view.Being the first to grab a bookmark from a can when 20+ people are trying to do the same is largely a matter of luck. The Vigil is up to 25% faster than the Rifter due to a 5% per level speed bonus not mentioned in its description.Container approach technique: wait until ~30km out and change speed to ~100m/s.Tanking is overrated, and violence overhyped, in a racing environment.WCS are highly unlikely to prove useful. Although I enjoy using good equipment, it is by no means necessary in this sort of event.
Needless to say, the race was tremendous fun, and I'll be there for the next one in a couple of weeks. ---------- An idea for helping people to appreciate ECCM |

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the race, as I am taking part in a concert at that time with the university orchestra. I'll be seeing everyone again in a couple of weeks, over the holidays. ---------- An idea for helping people to appreciate ECCM |

The races will be closer, more exciting, and will involve a greater level of concentration and skill. Now that we have warp to 0km, all competitors are on a much more even footing, and people will need to use the autopilot much more judiciously. I expect to see every single pilot fitting a full rack of inertia stabilisers, and more Vigils.
Is anyone else going to be buying some of those rigs that increase warp speed? ---------- An idea for helping people to appreciate ECCM |

I will try to be there if I can, but I may not have access to a PC that can run EVE come Saturday. I'd certainly like to hear which region the next race is taking place in. --------------------------------------------

signs out of the league !! Anyone who want to buy a rifter with 1x hyperspatial velocity optimzer (7.2au warpspedd) gimme call !
Well, if I had the option to put them in a Vigil instead, I might be interested.
Looking forward to the next race, whenever that is - I suppose it must be on December 30th, all being well. I've missed the last two races, but with Owi's departure I may still have a chance. A small chance. --------------------------------------------

Depending on the warp distances encountered, it's probably worth fitting one or two rigs that increase warp speed - 3 of them get you going at 10.368au/s rather than the usual 6 for a t1 frig. ------

Edited by: Kazuo Ishiguro on 14/01/2007 10:58:31 Hmm - problems class finishes at 1300 GMT, then ~2 miles to cycle back home. Oh, and what that map doesn't show is that after crossing the river, I have to climb a 120ft hill...

Alas, not such a good evening's racing as I'd hoped for.
Out of the fourteen or so people who entered, I was about 6th up until the 7th waypoint, when I was attacked by a Guristas destroyer. As usual, the bookmarks were taking ages to appear, and I was extremely glad that I'd fitted a cap injector and a T2 Small Armour Repairer. I was constantly running out of cap, but a steady supply of cap booster 50 kept me going, provided I kept activating the repairer.
Some time later, I was well into armour (where were those bookmarks?), when with no input from me, the client minimised. An auto-update of AVG antivirus (which opened a small sort of pop-up window) might have caused this, but I've known this to happen under different circumstances as well. Either way, it shouldn't have happened.
I got EVE back on screen again just in time to reactivate the SAR II, but by then I was over 90% into hull and my ship was destroyed before a cycle could complete. Oh, and those &*^%$&ś! bookmarks finally appeared, slowing things down again
I freely admit that there were other means I could have tried to use to survive, but it's my view that what should have worked didn't, for reasons beyond my control.
I haven't totally written off the loss just yet, but I'll be back no matter what. At least I was able to enjoy some Tchaikovsky during the race

The petition from the last race came through a few days ago, and as a result I now possess two very nifty, fully fitted racing frigates - I didn't want to gamble on it going through before the next race.
If I survive the next race or two, I might consider selling one - direct trade only, since each has 3 rigs fitted ------

Agreed. Given several people with roughly equal fittings and some common sense, the deciding factor is usually the 'lottery' that ensues when everyone turns up at a waypoint and it takes up to 60 seconds for the bookmarks to load before some people can get at them.
I'm not sure about the move to Intergalactic Summit, though - I'll have to think about leaving SAK so that I'm allowed to post there ------
